From 8 July to 13th 2024, RODI Rwanda, in partnership with World Vision Rwanda, conducted a transformative training program for families in Mahama. This initiative, part of the PAC Project, aimed to strengthen families by promoting gender equality, shared responsibilities, and collaborative goal setting. Over 253 participants, including residents from both inside and outside the Mahama camp, benefited from this valuable training.
The GALS Approach: Building a Foundation for Family Success

The training emphasized the principles of the GALS approach, which stands for Gender Analysis, Learning, Action, and Systems. This framework equips families with the tools to:
- Understand complementarity: Participants explored how men and women can contribute their unique strengths to daily tasks, leading to a more efficient and fulfilling home life.
- Embrace gender equality: The training challenged traditional gender roles and empowered couples to work together in decision-making and household responsibilities.
- Develop strong families: Through open communication and mutual respect, families learn to build strong foundations for their well-being.
Visualizing Dreams and Taking Action

The training program incorporated engaging activities to help families define their aspirations and work towards achieving them.
- Day 1: Diamond Dreams: Participants created a visual representation of their ideal family life, encompassing their hopes, values, and goals. This exercise fostered communication and encouraged families to envision a brighter future.
- Day 2: Economic Dreams: Focusing on financial security, families created “Diamond Dreams” detailing their current economic status and future aspirations. This activity empowered them to set realistic and achievable goals for the next three years.
- Days 3 and 4: Action Planning: Building on the previous days’ discussions, participants developed concrete action plans to achieve their goals. These plans focused on practical steps to implement the principles learned during the training.
The training was divided into three groups, each undergoing a two-day intensive workshop. This personalized approach allowed for in-depth discussions and ensured each family received dedicated attention.
