In Ruhango, we are implementing a multi-faceted strategy designed to build resilience, foster leadership, and create sustainable economic pathways.

1. Nurturing the Youngest Minds: Early Childhood Development (ECD) A community’s future begins with its children. In partnership with the National ECD program in Rwanda, we are actively engaged in monitoring and providing supportive supervision to Home-Based, Community-Based, and Center-Based ECD facilities throughout Ruhango District. Coordinated by our dedicated Program Officer on the ground, this project ensures that early learning environments are safe, stimulating, and effective. By investing in quality early childhood development, we are laying the foundation for a generation of healthy, bright, and well-prepared learners.

2. Forging Youth Leaders: The Gold Youth Programme Empowering youth means giving them the tools to lead. Our Gold Youth Programme, currently active in the Byimana and Ruhango sectors, is a testament to this commitment. In collaboration with schools like Gs Ruhango Catholique, Gs Muyange, and Gs Bukomero, our Facilitator Interns, guided by a local Site Coordinator, are mentoring the next generation.

The program is a journey of transformation: over three years (2023-2026), we will empower 35 peer educators at each site, guiding them from “junior peer educators” to confident “Gold Grads.” These graduates then take the lead, selecting the next cohort of student educators, creating a sustainable, youth-led cycle of mentorship and positive influence. This isn’t just a program; it’s a movement building ethical, economically independent leaders from within the community.

3. Building Pathways to Prosperity: Skills for the Real World We bridge the gap between potential and opportunity with a suite of programs tailored to the local economy:

• Market-Responsive Vocational Training: We identify critical skills gaps in Ruhango’s economy—from modern agricultural techniques to in-demand trades—and design training programs that lead directly to employment.
• Entrepreneurship Development: We equip youth with the business acumen, financial literacy, and mentorship needed to launch their own successful ventures, turning job seekers into job creators.
• Life Skills Integration: We embed crucial soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking into all our training, ensuring our participants are not just technically proficient but also resilient and adaptable professionals.
