Rwanda’s most invaluable asset is its vibrant and dynamic youth. Representing the future leaders, innovators, and workforce, young Rwandans hold the key to unlocking the nation’s ambitious sustainable development goals. However, many youth in rural areas face unique challenges, including limited economic opportunities, barriers to quality education, and restricted platforms for active participation. Recognizing this, RODI Rwanda is deeply committed to empowering these young people, transforming challenges into opportunities and potential into tangible progress.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering self-reliance and community transformation, RODI Rwanda operates across various rural districts, including Ruhango and Nyanza, in close partnership with the Government of Rwanda and esteemed international organizations like World Vision and Caritas Rwanda. Our comprehensive approach addresses the multi-faceted needs of youth, equipping them with the skills, resources, and confidence to thrive.
RODI Rwanda’s Key Programs: Empowering Youth Across the Nation

We believe in a holistic strategy that nurtures economic independence, fosters leadership, and ensures safe environments for youth to flourish. Here are some of the impactful projects where RODI Rwanda is directly supporting the nation’s youth:
1. Building Economic Self-Reliance:
- Kora Wigire (Work for Self-Reliance) Poverty Alleviation Coalition (PAC): As a collaborative effort with World Vision and Caritas Rwanda, RODI empowers vulnerable youth within refugee and host communities. Through the Ultra-Poor Graduation (UPG) model, we provide comprehensive support including financial assistance, targeted training, and mentorship to lift households, including their youth members, out of extreme poverty and towards sustainable self-reliance.
- MFASHA KWIFASHA: Implemented in Nyanza District (Busasamana and Mukingo sectors), this project is specifically designed to improve youth economic opportunities and enhance their active participation in community transformation. It directly addresses the need for sustainable livelihoods.
- HUGUKA DUKORE AKAZI KANOZE: This critical initiative focuses on equipping vulnerable youth across Rwanda with market-relevant, work readiness, and job skills. By bridging the gap between education and employment, we enable young people to participate meaningfully in Rwanda’s economic growth vision.
2. Cultivating Leadership and Driving Positive Change:
- Peer Education Program: Through our strategic partnership with the Gold Youth Programme, RODI Rwanda is embedding powerful peer leaders and their mentors directly into schools and communities, particularly within Ruhango District. Here, high school students are trained as peer educators. They are equipped with essential life skills, communication techniques, and crucial digital skills, including proficiency in the M&E Web App for effective program monitoring. These peer educators, guided by our dedicated Facilitator Interns and coordinated by our Site Coordinator, empower themselves and their peers to become ethical and economically independent leaders of tomorrow, turning passive recipients into proactive agents of positive change.
- Engaging Youth in Community Decision-Making: In Nyanza District, we actively work to increase youth confidence and self-belief, helping them work out positive career choices and fostering their greater involvement and responsibility in community development processes. This ensures their voices are heard and valued in local governance.
3. Fostering Safe and Supportive Environments:
- Supporting a Comprehensive Approach Toward Justice, Stigma, and Social Reintegration of SGBV Victims: While focused on addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), this project directly impacts youth. RODI plays a role in preventing and raising awareness on GBV, and protecting and supporting young people (including witnesses and victims) of violence. By fostering safer environments and promoting social reintegration, we enable youth to stay in school, pursue opportunities, and lead healthier, more productive lives.
A Shared Vision for Rwanda’s Future

RODI Rwanda’s commitment to the nation’s youth is unwavering. By investing in their economic empowerment, nurturing their leadership capabilities, and ensuring their safety and well-being, we are not just addressing immediate needs; we are building the foundation for a resilient, innovative, and prosperous “Next Generation Rwanda.” It’s a collaborative effort, and together with our partners and the relentless spirit of Rwandan youth, we are igniting potential for a brighter future.
